Out of This World Crossword Puzzle Project

Introduction:
In this project you will visit an interactive website to research the planets in the Solar System. You will then use this information about the planets to create an original crossword puzzle based on your research. The puzzles will be printed so you can share them with your classmates.

Tasks:

1. Go to Interactive Solar System Facts. (Apples4theteacher)

2. Look at the 10 rockets moving across the screen. Each rocket has the
    name of a planet or the Sun on it. Notice that if you drag your mouse
    over a rocket, information about a planet or the Sun will appear.

3. Click here to print out the research worksheet.

4. Mouse over each rocket and read the paragraph. Record 2 or 3 facts
    about each planet and the Sun.

5. When you've read each paragraph and written facts about each planet and
     the Sun.

6. Go to Discovery School's Puzzlemaker.

7. At Step 1 type "Your Planet's Puzzle". Skip steps 2 and 3.

8. At Step 4 type the word "Sun", hit the spacebar once, and type what you
    you think is the most important fact about the Sun.

9. When you are finished with the first clue, type a period, hit the Enter key,
     type the name of a planet, followed by a space and it's clue.

10. Repeat the steps above for each of the planets.

11. Click "Create my puzzle". Now you should see a crossword puzzle with
     your clues beneath it.

12. Print the page TWO times.

13. On one copy of the puzzle write the correct answers in the blanks.
      Add your name.

14. Hand in both puzzles to your teacher. The completed puzzle (the one
      without the answers) will be given to a classmate to solve.
