First Grade |

| The First Grade is busy learning lots of new vocabulary,
polishing our long and short vowels sounds, working on sounding out words,
reading fluently and learning to read for comprehension.
We are doing daily math drills to practice the math facts and working on mastering the addition and subtraction facts to 12. We learn to work with tens and ones and working with numbers to 100. In English we study the parts of speech, types of sentences and how to write a simple story. In Social Studies we study homes and communities. In Science we study how to keep ourselves healthy. We also study about magnets and through many activities learn the many uses for magnets. We find the poles on magnets and find out about different kinds of magnets and the kinds of things magnets attract and do not attract. |
