Curriculum
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM:
The curriculum is geared toward:
• providing a total Catholic and Christian Education.
• following National Standards as outlined in the Archdiocese of Baltimore Course of Study.
• serving children from Pre-K through 8th grade.
The professional lay staff consists of a Principal, an Assistant Principal, 20 full time teachers, 7 part time teachers and 2 assistants. The curriculum meets the requirements of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Courses include: religion, mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, health, music, physical education, band, computer, library science skills, and Spanish.
Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten
The Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten program is designed to provide:
• readiness for formal math and reading instruction.
• strong foundation and early identification of learning styles.
• Religion class daily.
• Pre-K reading enrichment activities.
• Kindergarten enrichment reading activities.

Religion
The Religion program is designed to provide:
• daily instruction for all students.
• Practical application of the Catholic faith by making available opportunities for identifying and demonstrating Christian values.
• occasions for participation in Eucharistic Liturgies, prayer and service.

Language Arts
The Language Arts program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades K-8.
• reading instruction.
• integration of writing skills.
• emphasis on English skills.
• Title I services available in reading.
• for students to be grouped according to their needs in Reading and English.
• modified reading and small group instruction.
• separate phonics instruction.
• updating materials as warranted.
Mathematics
The Mathematics program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades K-8.
• for students to develop an understanding of concepts, to extend computation skills, and to use technology to engage in creative problem solving.
• for use of manipulatives, exploratory activities and cooperative learning.
• for students to be grouped according to ability.

Social Studies
The Social Studies program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades K-8.
• opportunities for students to develop knowledge of geography, history, and culture of the U.S. and the world.
• research and study skill development.

Science
The Science program is designed to provide:
• progress learning in grades K-8.
• for students to be guided to a structured, disciplined approach of scientific observation and reasoning.
• research and study skills development.
• opportunities for students to participate in the Science Fair: 7th and 8th grade.

Foreign Language/Spanish
The Foreign Language program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades 6-8.
• opportunities for students to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish.
• venues for awareness of other cultures.

Physical Education
The Physical Education program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades Pre-K-8.
• settings in which students learn to respect others and abide by rules and regulations of a variety of sports and games.
• health instruction throughout the year.
• a school-wide field day to emphasis fair play and good sportsmanship.

Music
The Music program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades Pre-K-8.
• opportunities for students to participate in general music classes once per week focusing on music appreciation, music theory, liturgical singing, and secular music.

Art
The Art program is designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades Pre-K-8.
• settings where students participate in general art classes once per week where they are presented with a variety of techniques, which they utilize to create finished products.

Library and Computer
The Information/Technology Skills program, the Library/Media program, and the Computer program each are designed to provide:
• progressive learning in grades Pre-K-8.
• for students to learn and apply research, reference, critical thinking and study skills to access, evaluate, use, and organize information.
• for students to develop skills in keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheet, database, power point, and graphic design as a means of organizing and presenting information.
• acceptance of the Ethical Use of Technology agreement which insures proper use of the internet for on-line research.
