Reverend Father Jose Opalda
I am happy to be called “Fr. Jojo.” It’s my 18th year in the ministry and I have served in four different parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. I served as Associate Pastor at Our Lady of the Fields, Millersville for 4 and a half years, St. Joseph Cockeysville for 2 years, St. John, Westminster for almost a year and two months as temporary Administrator at St. John, Long Green, Hydes.
I am also helping at the Marriage Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Baltimore as Defender of the Bond. I got my Canon Law degree at Catholic University of America in May 2011.
Serving as Pastoral Associate since September 2001, Deacon Henry Davis works in the areas of community life, evangelization, and pastoral outreach. Ordained a permanent deacon by Archbishop Borders on October 24, 1987 Deacon Henry spent 26 years in the Air Force system, was a motorcycle police officer, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a middle management postmaster. His interests include watching classic movies and spending time with his family. He and his former wife, Mary, have been married for over 50 years and have four sons, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Nikki Lux started as our Director of Faith Formation on July 1, 2008 after serving in the same capacity at St. Mary’s parish in Pylesville, MD. Nikki has a great enthusiasm for sharing the good news of our faith. Her responsibilities include overseeing our children’s faith formation, preparation programs for Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Marriage, adult faith formation, catechist formation, RCIA, and child protection programs.
Mr. Paul Kristoff is a parishioner at Immaculate Conception parish in Towson. He served as Assistant Principal for Baltimore County Public Schools for eight years. Prior to this leadership role, Mr. Kristoff was an elementary school teacher and a teacher mentor for the gifted and talented program. His knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, commitment to mission and personal desire to share his faith with the school community will honor traditions inspire innovation and enhance the learning experiences for all students. Mr. Kristoff holds a Masters in the Arts of Teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a BA in Business/ Economics from Randolph-Macon College. In addition, Mr. Kristoff has earned his Administration Level II certification and is the recipient of both teaching and leadership honors and awards.
Mr. Kristoff has been married to Kelly for sixteen years and they have three children: Cate (13), Carter (11) and Charlie (8). Outside of school, Mr. Kristoff is an avid golfer and a sports enthusiast. He also loves to work around the house and playing with his children.
Kathie Misek came to us in May, 2002 as secretary/bookkeeper. In September, 2005 she became Parish Business Manager. Kathie’s responsibilities include management of the parish office, payroll, employee benefits, and accounting for both the parish and school. She has also worked at the Catholic Center as well as Church of the Nativity (Timonium). Her interests include crocheting, quilting, cross-stitching, and animals. She lives in Overlea with her husband, Rick, as well as her cat and dog Eddie Michael and Sammie. Unlike her pets, she does bite, so watch out!
Mr. Jamie Spangler (Maintenance Supervisor)
Jamie Spangler has been the Maintenance Supervisor since 2012. Jamie oversees the parish facilities and insures that our buildings are in good repair. He also sits on the parish Buildings and Properties Committee, planning for long term capital repairs and improvements.
Debbie started with St. Michael’s in February 2015. She works in the parish office and supports the administrative activities of the religious education office as well as the parish office. She has two wonderful children and loves to read and crochet in her spare time. Debbie can be found in the parish office Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Michelle came to work at St. Michael’s as a secretary in 2015. Michelle is married to James and their son, Andrew, was a student here at St. Michael School. Michelle can be found in the parish office Tuesday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Jim Kraus became the Director of Music & Liturgy in 2015 in addition to maintaining his role as Director of the Contemporary Music Ensemble.
Jim began singing in our Contemporary Music Ensemble, and has directed the group since the early 1990’s. By day he is a school administrator in the Baltimore City public school system. He and his wife Kristin, and sons J.P. and Trevor, have been lifelong parishioners. Our CME is known in the area as one of the finest.
Kevin Callahan joined our staff in August of 2016. No stranger to St. Michael, he graduated in 2008 and served as a sacristan and altar server. Kevin is a student at Towson University studying Organ Performance- he has also performed with the TU Symphonic band, Orchestra, Chorale, Men’s Chorus, and Early Music Ensemble. He is set to graduate in the Fall of 2017. Kevin directs the Traditional and Handbell Choirs.
When not in school or at St. Michael, Kevin enjoys visiting notable organs all over the East Coast. He also works as an apprentice for a local pipe organ maintenance firm. Kevin lives in Cockeysville and has two cats, Trudy and Nacho.
Mrs. Gloria Young (Rectory Staff)
Gloria has worked in St. Michael’s rectory for over 20 years. Our resident “house mother,” she helps to maintain the cleanliness and good order of the rectory, including church and rectory household laundry. She also helps with shopping and other household tasks.
Mr. Karl Stein (Facilities Assistant)
Karl Stein assists Jamie Spangler, Maintenance Supervisor, in duties of facilities and maintenance around the campus of St. Michael Parish and School.
